Why I Took a Break from Blogging

730 days of experience in a nutshell.

It’s been two months since I wrote anything on my blog (maybe more than that).

After 730 days of working on my blog, I decided to take a break. I couldn’t take it anymore. It was frustrating. I was not seeing any results.

Even if I managed to gain 2M+ impressions and 100K+ clicks in these two years, I made less than $50 in total revenue. It may seem deceptive but it’s true.

I never made more than $50 in total, forget about $50 a month.

You may ask how’s that possible? The answer is, “I have no idea”. It might be due to the CPC rates and especially in India, it’s quite low. But not making $50 in total annoys me a lot.

After spending this much on a blog, paying for a domain name, web hosting, premium theme, and two years of time, I felt cheated. I was not able to continue it anymore. So I decided to take a break until I can ready myself to work on it with full force.

I may have put a step backward but did not decide to give up on it yet. Neither will.

I will hop on it later, maybe tomorrow, next month, or next year. But I will soon come back to my blogging business.

Let’s hope for the bright future ahead of me.

That said, here are the lessons I have learned in these 730 days of blogging.

I don’t remember how many times I have repeated this where ever I talk about achieving success. No matter what you do, being consistent always helps.

In these two years, I only managed to publish 179 articles and that’s kind of low for a tech blog. As a result, I wasn’t able to get more than 500 visitors a day. I was stuck on that.

In fact, when my 500 visitors turned into 100 visitors a day, I couldn’t recall. If only advice I have to give to you before starting your blogging career, I would say, be consistent.

We all know blogging isn’t free. You need cash to invest in domain and hosting.

Imagine after putting a big investment on a blog and writing for two years, you don’t even manage to cross the $50 mark in a month, that’s frustrating. But who I am to blame anyone? It’s all my fault. I know that.

Yet, if you aren’t prepared for all of this, don’t do it. Don’t start blogging.

When we talk about blogging, it doesn’t mean sitting on a couch with a laptop and writing. There are other aspects too you need to consider.

WordPress is a complex thing and if you don’t know how to manage it, it can be frustrating sometimes. Setting up a custom theme and designing your pages take a lot of time. If that’s not enough, page speed will make you an angry monkey.

Once you start putting articles on your blog ignoring speed optimization, trust me, you are going nowhere. Speed is the important part of your blog and if it isn’t good enough, you aren’t going to rank higher on Google.

And all this stuff stresses me a lot. I’ve spent days designing my theme and optimizing it for speed. So if you are planning to hop on to a blogging business, be ready for everything.

Here it goes! That’s my 730 days of experience in a nutshell. Note that my motive here is not to discourage you from doing what you love. I want you to be aware of other aspects you should consider from day one. I never did that early and know what it does.

Best of luck with your blogging career. And yes, one last piece of advice, never use a crack theme. It will hurt your blog a lot.
