As someone who drinks tea regularly you would think I liked my assignment. No. I do not. You see, I only like specific types of tea, and never the kind I brew at home. It just doesn’t taste the same…
When planning my recent trip to Madurai, I Googled for photographic places around it. My craze for capturing street and people had me fixed upon this banana market, which was one of the top search results that popped up.
I was not sure whether we could make it there, as we were on a tight schedule. As a part of covering the best food joints in Madhurai (Food comes first!), we were searching for the nearest “Famous Jigarthanda” outlet. Once we found it and gulped a couple of glasses of “Jigarthanda”, I casually looked at google map for the so-called Banana Market. To my surprise, it was just a walk away from where we are now (Later that day in a bitter way, I came to know that 2KM is not a walkable distance for my wife).
From outside itself, anyone can tell its a banana market. The Pull-carts waiting outside filled with raw and ripe bananas, the small but busy alleys with multiple shops selling bananas and other things, the walls which look like a modern art painting done with banana stains, the welcoming and embracing smiles of the people in the market, etc… all in all, it had a heartwarming feel of its own.
I fell in love with this place instantly, It was an explosion of colors and a treat for my eyes. This will be a paradise for anyone who appreciates colors. The arresting bright green colors of bananas and the bright green, blue & yellow walls were all a visual feast.
The main goal of any species is to survive and endure. And we’re failing by accelerating climate change.
