Now That The Kids Are On Their Own

I’m a self improvement junkie. Although I was on pause for a bit.

I was on pause for about 40 years, while I raised my children.

When I first started out raising my sons, it was the 1970’s. I had dreams of becoming a successful writer. Plans got a bit derailed. The universe, along with several humans in positions of authority, decided for me that I wasn’t ready for that.

I definitely wasn’t. I wasn’t able to set a goal and break it down in any meaningful way, into the tiny elements needed to accomplish it. And the only experience I had in writing was being the editor of my college newspaper.

It also didn’t help that I was a single mom, juggling it all.

Fast forward to 2019.

My two sons were born exactly 20 years apart. My second one, the zen master

graduated from college in 2018, moved home, made plans, got a job and moved out several months later. He’s a master at flowing into what comes next. And setting goals to step into. I think he was just born with it.

But after he left, I was truly left alone in this shell of a house, questioning just what the heck I was doing before that “40 years of mom” stint?

I just couldn’t remember.

My best advice if you are parenting? Develop your exit plan NOW. That way, when the day comes, you’ll have already written it down. You’ll be able to just go right to that page and read all about it.

If you can just remember where you wrote it. Or where you put that journal that you wrote it in. Or was it on the back of a napkin?
