7 Signs You Are a Kind Person

I learned them the kind way.

My grandma once said, “be kind, Smillew. It’s the greatest gift you can give the world.”

I was young and selfish back then, “why would I give the world a gift? It didn’t give me any gift for my birthday this year. Let the world first show me some love, and maybe I’ll consider gifting it something.”

My grandmother smiled, said it was “interesting,” and left the room.

I knew I was in trouble.

At dinner, there was nothing on the table for me. Grandpa rolled his eyes and asked what I had done this time.

“He’s waiting for the world to give him a gift before considering returning the favor,” grandma answered for me.

“But that’s different! Food is a basic human right.” I replied, sure of my argument.

Grandma came prepared.

“Did you ask if you could help? Did you bring home food? Did you give any of your precious time to think about having food on the table?”

It didn’t look too good for my position. And grandma wasn’t even finished.

“And did you even consider cooking for your grandparents? I’ve been cooking non-stop for the last two weeks. What about you?”

I knew the way out. I had learned it from grandma herself. It had two steps. One was being grateful. The second was acknowledging she was right when she was right. She was always right, so that wasn’t too difficult.

“Thank you for cooking, Grandma. You’re right. Being kind is the greatest gift you can give to the world.”

The next day I asked grandpa if he could help me prepare dinner. The chicken was a bit dry, and the rice burnt, but grandma was happy with our effort.
