The Price of Exhaustion

I went to urgent care today because my supposed viral sinus/bronchial infection from two days ago has evolved into severe fatigue, fever, and seriously painful sinuses, in spite of the steroids they prescribed to reduce swelling in both sinuses and lungs.

Evidently, it worked for the lungs because the wheezing and coughing are more productive and less painful. The sinuses are worse, and now the ears are getting in on the party. Repeated visits to either virtual or in-person urgent care is not my preferred method of self-care, but it’s evidently what is needed and safest for everyone involved, so here we are.

It’s not Covid (as far as we know, they did take yet another swab, following up on a negative quickie test two days ago and my weekly swab that didn’t come back due to a problem with the courier that takes it to the testing site five days ago, just to be sure). But I do have bacterial sinusitis, based on a physical exam and a review of my medical history and the fact that my left ear and sinus areas are super painful.

And the fatigue is real, y’all.

So basically, the universe has conspired to make me tired enough that my body told its immune system to go take a hike. Like my brain saying, “Hey, body, Jenn needs rest. If you don’t give her some, I’m going to force the issue by poking at one of her weak spots. Left sinus and ear canal it is, and I’ll add some fever to make sure she keeps resting. I’ll even take away the extra appetite from the prednisone for good measure; all she really needs is fluids anyway.”

Having written this over the course of a few hours, I am now exhausted again, and that’s sad. I’m too tired to play video games or read books, and that’s saying something.
