Here is a simple picture of the truss.

We will keep the dimensions flexible so that we can use our own dimensions. r is the rise/run ratio, θ is the angle due to rise and run, i.e., tan(θ)=rise/run. L is the total length of the beam used to build the truss minus the eave and e is the eave. So the total length of the truss beam is L+e.

We next calculate the measurements for the actual cuts we need to make in the beam to build the truss.
