Classifying a List Variable using Classification Rule Builder in Adobe Analytics

Just like an eVar or a prop, we can classify the List variable too! And this is an added advantage considering the volume of data a single list variable can hold. A list variable can hold 250 delimited entries in it each of which can hold 250 characters.

Here’s a test list variable configuration in Report Suite Manager:

Once the list variable is configured in Adobe Analytics Report Suite Manager and also in the rule settings, we’ll need to configure the classification variable and then do the remaining configuration in Classification Rule Builder.

First, we’ll need to configure the classification variable in Report Suite Manager. Refer the steps below for the configuration:

4. Select the configured List Variable from the Select Classification Type drop down.

5. Add Classification based on the requirement.

I’ll be adding 2 fields, Form Query and Form Response to capture the different fields in a form.

Once Classifications are added based on our requirement, we’ll now need to configure the same in Classification Rule Builder.

6. Click on Add Rule Button and configure the rules for classifying based on requirements and Save.

7. To verify the configuration, click on Test Rule Set and enter sample keys.

8. Click Activate button to activate the classification configuration.
