A questioning of self always leads to one of two things

Truths that have already been exposed or worse

A complete sidestep

Rarely is something new released in spite of the self’s reluctance

Except in times of deep hurt and sorrow

The art and pain one-two combo return for the win

Distance from the work is clearly ineffectual in poetry

Feelings must be produced so pronouns are introduced

You! yes you, whose attention has shifted from disinterested to defensive

What do you hide behind your smiles and nimble wit?

What is the first thing your inner voice tells you when you trip and fall?

To get back up? Or is it something a little less than encouraging?

And now I’ve made you just a little uncomfortable

I seek to capitalise

So I expose a little piece of me; in one, two, three…

Or I don’t — but I still have you captivated

And before you know it

It’s over
